(Feb. 12, 6:00 p.m.) A new study commissioned by the Produce Marketing Association hopes to illustrate the industry’s economic force.

The Newark, Del.-based organization plans to have a teleconference with president Bryan Silbermann discussing PMA’s research on the “Economic Reach and Impact of the Fresh Produce and Floral Industry.”

The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern on Feb. 17.

Theresa Zuroick, PMA’s public relations coordinator, said information was gathered between January and October 2008 and the study itself will be made available Feb. 17.

Types of information analyzed included employment, wages, value-added and output, which was represented by sales, Zuroick said.

PMA expects the study to have broad-reaching influence on grant acquisition, lobbying and market development and plans to use the information to advance its position in government affairs, nutrition and other agendas.
