(Oct. 19) After 14 years wearing a variety of hats of increasing responsibility at Monterey, Calif.-based Pro*Act, Max Yeater has been named to the company’s newly-created post of chief operating officer.

Steve Grinstead, president and chief executive officer of the foodservice distribution giant, will turn over day-to-day functions to Yeater and will concentrate on commodity selection and procurement, and long term strategic planning, said Mary Wright-Rana, marketing manager.

“The change is going to give Steve Grinstead more time to focus on those areas,” she said.

As chief operating officer, Yeater will be responsible for procurement, client services, marketing, business development and food safety.

“Max has been instrumental in the growth and success of Pro*Act,” Grinstead said in a news release. “His experience, sound judgment and leadership style all positioned him to take over the reins of the day-to-day operations.”

Yeater worked for Pro*Act while attending college and has spent his entire produce industry career with the company, Wright-Rana said. Among his positions at Pro*Act are product manager, director of procurement and, most recently, vice president of procurement.
