(May 24) Subway Restaurants, Milford, Conn., on May 22 introduced its new "fit" offerings in 1,700 franchised Subway units throughout California.

In a news release, the company said its California Fit Fresh Value Meals include low-fat sandwiches and sides such as sliced apples, raisins, low-fat milk and apple juice.

Subway said the meals promote healthier eating among children and adults, and were inspired by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Get Healthy California program.

The firm did not mention plans to extend the concept to other states.
