(Aug. 29) IRWINDALE, Calif. — Ready Pac Produce is targeting consumers with a 5 a Day the Color Way message just in time for September’s National 5 a Day month.

Along the way, the company hopes to increase sales of its fresh-cut salads, fresh-cut fruit and fresh-cut vegetables.

Beginning in September, Ready Pac will include a pocket-sized 5 a Day information guide, as well as coupons for Ready Pac products, in 5 million packages of its European-Style salads. Those packages also will feature banners on the outside promoting 5 a Day and telling consumers about the coupons inside each package.

“We heard the 5 a Day the Color Way message, and it made a lot of sense,” said Marji Morrow, director of marketing. “We have at least one product in every color category, so we’re able to spread the 5 a Day message and also entice consumers to try different Ready Pac products.”

Each in-pack booklet will include three coupons for discounts on Ready Pac products.

In addition to the coupons, the in-pack materials will include the 5 a Day pocket guide. The business-card-sized guide will offer consumers lists of the fruits and vegetables that fall into each color category.

Morrow said retailers liked the idea of the nationwide promotion and that Ready Pac received plenty of help in tying into the 5 a Day message from the Produce for Better Health Foundation.

“The Produce for Better Health Foundation has been extremely helpful in putting this together,” Morrow said. “They’ve been very supportive, as are the retailers.”
