LENEXA, Kan. — A new online database provides access to more than 30,000 produce industry companies, free of charge.

Red Book, The Packer launch free online database

Red Book Credit Services and The Packer, both owned by Lincolnshire, Ill.-based Vance Publishing Corp., have launched ProduceMarketGuide.com, which offers users Red Book data without requiring them to become Red Book members, said AnneMarie Wills, general manager of Red Book.

“This is a big departure in how this information is disseminated to the marketplace,” Wills said. “We feel it will provide great value for our members.”

In the past, users had to become Red Book members to access the service’s information, Wills said. That prevented non-industry members from accessing information — and connecting with Red Book members — through Internet searches.

ProduceMarketGuide.com will make it much easier for produce industry members to gain access to potential customers via the Web, Wills said.

There are other guides of its kind in the industry, Wills said, but ProduceMarketGuide.com is by far the most comprehensive.

In addition to featuring more than 30,000 company listings, the site organizes those listings in more than 1,500 categories spanning the produce, transportation and allied industries.

Searches on the site can be conducted by business type, geography or advanced keyword search.
