A leading south Texas citrus shipper has awarded scholarships to three children of company employees who are attending college or will enter college this fall.

Mission-based Rio Queen Citrus Inc. has awarded its James H. Ware Scholarship to Gloria Torres, Yadira Rodriguez and Andrew Longoria, according to a company news release.

Ware, Rio Queen’s founder, died in January.

Gloria, the daughter of employee Rosa Torres, is majoring in graphic design at the University of Texas Pan American.

Yadira, the daughter of Julio and Lucy Rodriguez, plans to attend Texas Pan American, majoring in athletic training or sports medicine.

Andrew, son of Yolanda Longoria, is majoring in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas A&M in Kingsville.
