(May 15) Rob O’Rourke is going home.

O’Rourke, who founded RJO Produce Marketing with his brother John in 1993, has rejoined the Fresno, Calif.-based company as senior vice president of business development. Rob O’Rourke sold his interest in RJO to his younger brother in 2004 when he resigned as president to become vice president of produce for Topco Associates Inc., a retail buying cooperative based in Skokie, Ill.

“I wanted to focus on working with retailers to grow sales,” he said. “Topco is focused on saving money through procurement.”

John O’Rourke, who was vice president before his brother’s departure, will continue as president and owner of RJO.

“I’m very excited to get him back on a personal level, but it’s just as important from a business perspective,” John O’Rourke said.

The brothers founded the business as RJO Produce Distributing 14 years ago as an independent seasonal buying office in five commodity groups -- strawberries, stone fruit, grapes, citrus and melons, primarily from California and Arizona.

The company changed its name to RJO Produce Marketing in 2000 when it started offering year-round supplies by expanding it sourcing to Chile, Florida and Central America. RJO has seasonal offices in Philadelphia; Nogales, Ariz.; and Coachella, Calif.
