(March 14) BOCA RATON, Fla. — Rosemont Farms Corp. is diving deeper into the value-added vegetable category by releasing more fresh-cut and packed vegetable items.

At the Southeast Produce Council’s Southern Exposure 2006 retail and foodservice conference and exposition in Fort Lauderdale on March 4, Rosemont displayed eight new microwaveable tray packs.

These are additions to the value-added product line it introduced at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit 2005 exposition in Atlanta on Nov. 6-8.

The 8-ounce stand-alone packs, all available year-round in eight trays per box, are packed under Rosemont’s Blue View label:

  • Sweet Petites fresh baby peas;

  • Soft Stalk Broccoli Medley;

  • Sweet Petites and Carrot Treats;

  • yellow patty pan baby summer squash;

  • green patty pan summer squash;

  • green zucchini;

  • cut green beans with carrots;

  • lima beans.

The products also are available in 2-pound tubs for foodservice and club store sales.

The packs join Rosemont’s half-dozen packs of 8-ounce microwaveable bags of asparagus tenders, tender french beans, Heat a Pea snow peas, Cook a Carrot baby carrots, Zap a Snap sugar snap peas and 8-ounce overwrapped trays of white asparagus.

Though Rosemont unveiled the first part of the line at Fresh Summit, the shipper was starting heavy production of the products March 8, said Lacie Randall, marketing coordinator.

“We were looking for something a little bit different but not too different so people wouldn’t want to try them,” she said.
