(Sept. 26, 12:00 p.m.) The Produce Marketing Association’s Foundation for Industry Talent has established a scholarship fund in memory of industry veteran Terrence “Tip” Murphy.

The Tip Murphy Legacy Fund will aid industry professionals seeking to advance their leadership skills, as well as serve the industry by providing scholarships to leadership training and development programs, said executive director Cindy Seel.

Murphy was division vice president of retail sales for Ready Pac Foods Inc., Irwindale, Calif., when he died unexpectedly on July 13 at age 48.

“Bob Spence of Ready Pac spearheaded this,” Seel said. “All the players involver were good friends or worked with Tip.”

The fund will build a permanent endowment of $250,000 by 2012 to fund scholarships in perpetuity. It will be publicly unveiled at Fresh Summit 2008 on October 24-27 in Orlando, Fla.
