Jackson Farming Co. adds acreage, completes Global GAP

Jackson Farming Co., Autryville, N.C., expands for the upcoming season.

The company plans to add 40 acres of yellow-meat, seedless watermelons, as well as expand its honeydew acreage.

A new packing shed for sweet potatoes was also completed at the end of 2011.

The company will begin it’s 2012 season with it’s completed Global Good Agricultural Practices certification, so all its products from North Carolina are now certified.

N.C. Department of Ag rolls out RV

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will be traveling to fairs, festivals and other events with its “Got to be N.C.” RV.

The motor home is covered in scenes from North Carolina agriculture and the Got to Be N.C. logo.

It will be used to promote North Carolina agriculture and was unveiled at the state fair in October.

“It’s for kids of all sizes. We just want to educate people,” Kevin Hardison, agricultural marketing specialist with the department, said.
