Although most of the onions are still transplanted and harvested by hand, the Vidalia onion industry is moving into the electronic era more each year, with the 2014 season scheduled to bring the list of certified growers to the Internet.

Officials with the Georgia Department of Agriculture are working with the Vidalia Onion Business Council’s general manager Bob Stafford to create an online list of the 2014 season’s certified growers. The move came at the suggestion of Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black, Stafford said.

Stafford said March 28 that the list would likely be available online by mid-April.
