The ladies behind TexaSweet Citrus Marketing Inc. take readers to their kitchen for a fresh new look at using Texas grapefruit.

The Mission-based organization’s new blog,, shows readers, in photos, just how to enjoy the many flavors of Texas's rio star grapefruit.

“They’re so sweet that you can eat them in any type of dish — desserts, savory dishes, salads, entrees — they’re very versatile,” said Eleisha Ensign, executive director.

Ensign and marketing coordinator Kymberly Meade plan to take submissions from last season’s recipe contest into their own kitchen and make them from scratch.

“We had 1,200 entries to our contest this year, so we’re going to use them,” Ensign said.

“We did our first round of recipes yesterday.”

Ensign said TexaSweet plans to call it the “Season of Recipe Challenges.”

“We knew we wanted to do a blog but really wanted to develop it more than that,” she said.

“We decided to do a personal touch and not have it be a corporate blog. It’s more hands-on.”

Step-by-step instructions, photos and commentary about how to do the recipe and how it turned out also is included.

TexaSweet also hired a public relations agency to assist it in doing demonstration videos of how to section a grapefruit and to make recipes for its Web site to give consumers easy to understand instructions.
