Mayda Sotomayor-Kirk, chief executive officer of Seald Sweet International, will be the guest speaker at an event honoring women at the United Fresh Produce Association’s annual convention in New Orleans.

Sotomayor-Kirk, who became Vero Beach, Fla.-based Seald Sweet’s first female CEO in 2007, will speak May 2 at Washington, D.C.-based United Fresh’s Reception Honoring Women in Produce, according to an association news release.

The featured speaker at the event, which has been held for 15 years, is chosen by a committee of her peers from a pool of nominees. Speakers share their personal experiences working in the produce industry.

After working as a saleswoman and imports director for Pompano Beach, Fla.-based Great American Farms, Sotomayor-Kirk joined Seald Sweet in 2000 as imports director. She became the company’s first female senior vice president in 2004.
