Southern Specialties Inc. has hired a vice president of sales.

Southern Specialties names sales V.P.

Daryl Johnston joined Pompano Beach, Fla.-based Southern Dec. 1, said  Charlie Eagle, the company’s vice president of business development.

Johnston is Southern’s first-ever vice president of sales, Eagle said. In creating the position, the company wanted someone adept at not only day-to-day management but also strategic, multi-year planning, Eagle said.

“Our company continues to experience growth, and we wanted someone to help us develop a game plan for the future,” he said.

Johnston worked most recently as vice president of sales and marketing for Perrysburg, Ohio-based GreenLine Foods Inc.

Before that, he held various management positions during an 11-year career at Monterey, Calif.-based Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc. Johnston also worked as executive vice president of sales and marketing for Fellsmere, Fla.-based B&W Quality Growers Inc.

Johnston said he has long admired Southern’s innovative culture and the way the company goes after new business.

“I look forward to helping take them to the next level,” he said.
