Although three years of baseball experience isn’t often a requirement needed for a job in the produce industry, Steinbeck Country Produce is banking on just that with its newest sales and marketing associate, Ryan Bittner.

Bittner joined the company May 4, after following his baseball career with a stint in the mortgage and real estate banking industry, according to a news release. His career moved to banking after three years as a pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays’ Level A team.

Bittner is learning the produce industry by spending most of his time in the field and cooler, according to the release, and will gradually move into sales.
