(May 7) Stemilt Growers Inc., Wenatchee, Wash., plans to market all of Peshastin, Wash.-based Peshastin Hi-Up Growers’ pears, starting when harvest begins in August.

Stemilt sold the majority of the cooperative’s pears in the most recent season, said Mike Taylor, vice president of sales and marketing for Stemilt.

“Stemilt and Hi-Up will gain efficiencies through collaboration in not only marketing the crop, but also in packing, storage plans, packaging materials, ripening programs, transportation and logistics,” Taylor said in a news release.

Stemilt ships about 12 million boxes of apples, 1 million boxes of pears, 2.75 million boxes of cherries, and 1.5 million boxes of soft fruit each year. Hi-Up Growers shipped about 750,000 boxes of pears, according to the release.

The alliance makes Stemilt the largest marketer of Concorde and Taylor’s Gold pears, as well as organic pears, according to the release.
