Third-graders spent part of the day hearing from growers about the importance of agriculture March 11 during a farm day lesson in King City, Calif.

Third-graders spent part of the day hearing from growers about the importance of agriculture and the how businesses in the industry work. Students heard from cattle ranchers, artichoke growers, nurserymen, wine grape growers, salad processors and vegetable growers about origin of their food, according to a news release.

Monterey County Agricultural Education Inc., organized the March 11 event at the Salinas Valley Fair Grounds, King City. The group sponsors the event three times a year, reaching 6,000 third-grade students, with up to 400 local companies donating time and materials.
