(March 20) Bakersfield, Calif.-based Sun World International LLC has named executives to three newly-created positions as part of its restructuring after its February 2005 buyout from bankruptcy.

Dirk Winkelmann was named senior vice president of global business development, Roger Griess was promoted to director of North American business development and replenishment and David Fenn was promoted to senior vice president of quality assurance.

These new positions come after the July hiring of chief executive officer Bruce Burton.

Mike Aiton, Sun World’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, said the positions were part of major changes that have taken place in the past year at Sun World since it was bought by Lake Forest, Ill.-based Black Diamond Capital Management.

“All three of them are preparing Sun World for future growth and for expanding into new markets and into new products,” Aiton said. “Dirk (Winkelmann) will be sourcing offshore products contraseasonal, more or less, and Roger (Griess) is going to be working on our domestic kinds of programs.”

Winkelmann, who was expected to start at Sun World on April 1, previously was vice president of global business development and procurement at Issaquah, Wash.-based Vanguard International for 11 years. Before that he was vice president of operations and managing director for seven years at Chiquita Frupac, a subsidiary of Chiquita Brands International Inc., Cincinnati.

Griess has been at Sun World for nine years, most recently as manager of replenishment services. His promotion is effective immediately, Aiton said.

Fenn has been at Sun World for the 20 years, and most recently was senior vice president of southern grape operations, and was named to the quality assurance position in February.
