(March 15) Sysco Corp., the Houston-based foodservice distributor, plans to open a 700,000-square-foot distribution facility in Hamlet, Ind.

According to a news release, Baugh Midwest Cooperative -- a Sysco affiliate -- purchased 320 acres for Sysco’s Midwest Cooperative Redistribution Center, and the Starke County Development Foundation bought 24 acres to construct infrastructure.

Construction, which should take 12 to 18 months, should start this summer.

The facility will include freezer, refrigeration and dry storage space, offices and a truck maintenance facility, Sysco said.
