(Aug. 7) Effective immediately, The Packer has promoted Doug Ohlemeier from staff writer to Eastern editor.

Ohlemeier joined the staff in 2001. In the summer of 2005, he moved to Florida to cover the East.

“The East Coast is an important area for us strategically,” said Lance Jungmeyer, editor. He said Ohlemeier will become the go-to person for the newspaper’s sources in the East.

Ohlemeier said he’s already met a number of quality people in the Southeastern produce industry during the past year and plans to continue to provide extensive coverage of the region.

“I plan to expand upon the coverage The Packer is doing of the different produce companies here in Florida and throughout the East Coast,” he said.

Before joining The Packer, he worked in the marketing department at the Kansas Wheat Commission, Manhattan, for eight years. He also spent seven years in television news as a reporter, photographer and producer for markets in Springfield, Mo.; Topeka, Kan.; Wichita Falls, Texas; Longview, Texas; and Hastings, Neb.
