(Dec. 11) Tops Markets LLC, Williamsville, N.Y., has sold 29 of its 46 locations in Northeast Ohio and announced that negotiations are continuing to find buyers for the remainder of the stores.

Giant Eagle Inc., Pittsburgh, has agreed to buy 19 of the stores, according to an announcement from Tops.

All the locations closed by 3 p.m. Dec. 8.

"Throughout our history in Northeast Ohio, we have worked hard to be a good corporate citizen by actively supporting our associates, customers and neighborhoods," Max Henderson, Jr., Tops executive vice president and general manager, said in a news release. "We are satisfied that many of our stores have been sold to experienced grocery store operators who will continue the tradition of service to their communities."

Many Tops employees have been hired by the new buyers, the company reported.
