(Jan. 19, 11:01 a.m.) Jeff Noddle, chairman and chief executive officer of Supervalu Inc., Eden Prairie, Minn., was honored by the Arlington, Va.-based Food Marketing Institute with the 2009 Herbert Hoover Award for personal and professional excellence in food retail and wholesale.

The award was introduced in 1961, inspired by industry and government campaigns that President Hoover led to deliver food relief. Noddle is the 54th person to receive the award, according to a news release.

Neil Golub, president and chief executive officer of the Golub Corp., Schenectady, N.Y., won the 2009 Glen P. Woodard Jr. Public Affairs Award by the institute, recognizing his leadership in helping the supermarket industry address government issues.

Both awards were presented at the institute’s 2009 Midwinter Executive Conference on Jan. 11-13 in Orlando, Fla.

Allen Lund, president and founder of La Canada, Calif., Allen Lund Co., received the La Canada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce 2008 Businessperson of the Year Award on Jan. 15 at Oakmont Country Club, Glendale, Calif.

Lund was honored for his contributions to the community, according to a news release.

Dennis Gertmenian, founder of Ready Pac Foods Inc., Irwindale, Calif., will receive honorary membership into the Fresh Produce & Floral Council on Jan. 24 at the council’s annual Dinner Dance at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, according to a news release.

A pioneer in the fresh-cut industry, Gertmenian invented fresh-cut salad in a bag more than 40 years ago while working at his father’s produce warehouse. In 1969, he founded Ready Pac and began distributing fresh-cut salads to retailers.
