(July 28) According to a www.detnews.com report, Cincinnati-based chain grocer The Kroger Co. faces a possible boycott of its stores by Detroit area shoppers.

A coalition of Teamsters union and community leaders has urged the boycott in the wake of Kroger's announced plans to transfer its perishable food operations from Livonia, Mich., to Ohio, the report said.

Union officials projected that up to half of the 500 jobs at the Livonia warehouse could be slashed in the move.

The report noted that Kroger decided to close the 56-year-old facility as it was outdated and believed moving perishables distribution to a three-year-old Delaware, Ohio, center would save customers money.
