(Sept. 16, 3:10 p.m.) Kam Quarles has been hired by the United Fresh Produce Association to serve as vice president government relations and legislative affairs.
Quarles has served the past four years as the vice president of government affairs for the Washington, D.C.-based National Council of Farmer Cooperatives. Before that, Quarles served four years as managing director for the Washington, D.C.-office of Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based Sunkist Growers Inc., according to a Sept. 16 news release.
Quarles indicated he will plans to join United Fresh in mid-October after finishing up his duties at the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives.
âIt was a great fit. United is a strong organization around town and Iâm glad to be returning to the industry in full force,â he said in an interview Sept. 16.
United Fresh President Tom Stenzel praised the experience of Quarles in Washington in a United Fresh news release.
âHe has worked on agricultural issues in D.C. for many years, and he already knows many of the key decisions makers in Congress and in the administration, which means that he will be an effective member of our government relations team immediately,â Stenzel said in the Sept. 16 release.
Robert Guenther, senior vice president of public policy for United Fresh, said in the news release Quarles is a valuable and knowledgeable resource for all association members.
Quarles holds a bachelorâs degree from the University of Southern California and a masterâs degree in international commerce from George Mason University in Virginia, the Sept. 16 release said.
