(May 8, 11:04 a.m.) LAS VEGAS â Jerry Welcome plans to leave the United Fresh Produce Association, Washington, D.C., at the end of June, the end of United Freshâs fiscal year.
Welcome, executive vice president for business development, said he plans to set up a consulting firm specializing in association services.
âI have a real interest in working with small associations who want to grow,â he said May 6 at the United Fresh annual convention in Las Vegas.
Welcome had been president of the International Fresh-cut Produce Association before its spring 2006 merger with the United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association, to form United Fresh.
Welcome came to IFPA in February 2004 from the Packaging Machinery Manufacturerâs Institute, Arlington, Va., where he was vice president of member services. He also worked for the American Meat Institute and for several congressmen.
He said his 26 yearsâ experience in associations give him consulting expertise in legislative affairs, regulatory and marketing, particularly in the food, agriculture and packaging industries.
Welcome said his consulting company is yet unnamed, but it will be based in the D.C. area.
Claudia Wenzing joined United Fresh as vice president of business development in late April, after serving 12 years at the Wilmington, Del.-based Produce for Better Health Foundation.
