(UPDATED COVERAGE, April 21) The United Fresh Produce Association formatted all the key information about its annual convention, including schedules, exhibitor information and announcements, to fit very small screens â the iPhone and Blackberry.
The Washington, D.C.-based association launched the applications, or apps, in the week leading up to its 2010 convention and trade show April 20-23 in Las Vegas. For non-iPhone/Blackberry users, the association also put the information in the same format on a mobile Web site, m.unitedfresh.org.
"The launch of this app and mobile website represents a new dimension in our trade shows and a bold step forward in the way attendees experience all that the United Fresh show has to offer,â said Ray Gilmer, vice president of communications for United Fresh, in a news release.
Users of the apps can choose one of four segments of the market: grower-shipper, wholesaler/distributor, fresh-cut processor or retail/foodservice. The apps offer customized convention content based on the choice of market segment, according to a news release.
The association is also encouraging attendees who are also Twitter account holders to tweet from the show using the #United2010 hashtag. United staff will be tweeting from its account at www.twitter.com/unitedfresh.
