Fruit and vegetable marketers hoping to sell to the U.S. Department of Agriculture can get a how-to lesson through a July 14 web seminar.

The seminar features USDA officials and is sponsored by Lenexa, Kan.-based Red Book Credit Services, a sister company to The Packer.

USDA, Red Book team up to offer three web seminars

The web seminar, 2 p.m. EDT July 14, is part of Red Book University’s free educational program and the first of three web seminars that USDA is conducting with Red Book.

The second web seminar, “PACA — Your Partners in Produce,” is scheduled for Aug. 26. The third web seminar, planned for Sept. 16, will provide an overview of the USDA’s fresh produce market inspection process. Agency officials will explain how to request an inspection, how an inspection is done and how to appeal an inspection result.

To register, contact Chris Purdy, business development specialist at USDA, according to a news release, at (202) 720-3209 or by e-mail at christopher.purdy@ams.usda.gov.

The July 14 web event on selling to the USDA will be conducted by officials with USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service, the agency responsible for purchases of fruits and vegetables for the national school lunch program and other domestic nutrition programs.

“Red Book Credit Services is proud to be able to provide this valuable webinar series as part of Red Book University,” said AnnMarie Wills, general manager of Red Book Credit Services. “We support the AMS and look forward to more exciting programming in the future.”
