(Feb. 20) Wal-Mart Stores Inc. recently moved the former chief executive officer of its Walmart.com business into a job as head of U.S. business strategy.

As Carter Cast assumes the role, Raul Vazquez replaces Cast as CEO of the firm’s online operation.

Cast joined Walmart.com seven years ago and became the top executive at the business in 2005, while Vazquez joined Walmart.com in 2002 and most recently oversaw the Web site’s redesign last year along with his other duties as chief marketing officer, Wal-Mart said in a news release Feb. 15.

Wal-Mart said Vazquez would focus on day-to-day operations at Walmart.com, and would work on further integrating online and in-store capabilities that provide multi-channel options for customers.

“Carter’s (Cast’s) outstanding leadership, strategic vision and proven success at Walmart.com will help us further advance our U.S. business strategy,” said Eduardo Castro-Wright, president and CEO of Wal-Mart’s U.S. division, in the release. “And I am extremely pleased to have a talent like Raul leading our fast-growing online business,” he continued, specifically citing Vazquez’ ecommerce and marketing skills.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is based in Bentonville, Ark., and Walmart.com — a wholly owned subsidiary — is headquartered in Brisbane, Calif.
