(June 7) Former Sysco Corp. vice president Thomas Wason has joined Pero Vegetable Co. LLC, Delray, Fla., as senior executive director, the second job change for Wason this year.

Wason spent 17 years with Houston-based Sysco before announcing his resignation in August. He joined L.A. Specialty Co., Santa Fe Springs, Calif., on Jan. 2.

It was unclear why Wason departed L.A. Specialty. He did not respond to interview requests, and L.A. Specialty president Mike Glick could not be reached for comment. Pero vice president Frank Pero also was unavailable for comment.

Wason had been expected to manage the supply chain for L.A. Specialty, which caters to high-end foodservice customers in California, Arizona and Nevada. The company generated $160 million sales in 2006. Glick told The Packer in January that the company had a $200 million sales goal for 2007, and Wason called the job “a great opportunity” at the time.

Wason started with Sysco in 1989 as a senior produce merchandiser in Salinas, Calif. In 1990, he became general manager for produce and in 1993 was named director of perishables. In 1998, he became assistant vice president of perishables. He was promoted to vice president of perishables in 2000.
