(April 9) Dave Shaw, senior vice president of financial services for Irvine, Calif.-based Western Growers, died suddenly of a heart attack April 3.

Shaw had been with the association 28 years, said Paul Simonds, communications manager.

Tom Nassif, president and chief executive officer for the association, said Shaw died suddenly four days shy of his 60th birthday.

“Those of us who worked closely with Dave have nothing but loving and lasting fond memories of him, his intelligence, generosity, humor and his wit,” Nassif said in a memo to association members. “He was truly one of a kind.”

Nassif said Shaw was instrumental in the growth of Western Growers.

“It was his idea and initiative, and now his legacy, to create the Western Growers Financial Services company that provides very important services to Western Growers and its members,” he said in the memo.

Shaw is survived by his wife, Maria. Funeral and memorial services are scheduled for April 9. Details were not available.
