(Jan. 22, 12:23 p.m.) A produce industry veteran has been tapped to advise a leading consumer magazine on nutritional issues.

Robert Schueller, director of public relations for Los Angeles-based World Variety Produce Inc., which markets exotic fruits and vegetables under the Melissa's brand name, is one of 13 members of Cooking Light magazine’s 2009 Nutrition Advisory Board.

Made up of scientists, dietitians, chefs and other culinary experts, the board advises writers and editors on trends in healthy eating, Schueller said.

Schueller said he expects his presence to raise the profile of fresh fruits and vegetables in the magazine.

“More than ever, you will see produce become more of a focus in Cooking Light,” Schueller said. “It’s my understanding this is the first time a representative from the produce industry is a part of the panel.”
