Another stone fruit grower-shipper in California’s San Joaquin Valley has gone out of business.

Fresno-based Z&S Fresh Inc. issued a statement June 8 citing ongoing financial issues, a struggling economy and low prices as reasons for its demise, according to a story in the Sacramento Bee.

“Having failed in efforts to attract an equity investor, Z&S is seeking to protect the interests of its growers and creditors through an orderly cessation of business activities,” company officials said in the statement, according to the article.

Z&S joins George Bros. Packing, Ito Packing, Sunny-Cal Farms and Ballantine as valley shippers that have gone out of business since the end of the 2008 tree fruit season.

Z&S shipped grapes, citrus, tree fruit and vegetables.
