Group allows growers to focus on citrus

By Mike Sparks

The Florida citrus industry today faces an unprecedented number of challenges—immigration reform, canker, quarantines, tristeza, continued hurricane recovery, high consumer prices and citrus greening, to name but a few. At Florida Citrus Mutual in Maitland, we’re out there working our tails off every day to represent our members and provide them with information and action on the issues that affect their livelihood.

We’re here to provide a variety of benefits. With more than 150 collective years of industry experience, our staff is dedicated to ensuring the continued health and well-being of the Florida citrus industry through education, assistance, relief and empowerment.

Mutual’s mandate is to take on nature, labor, grower and trade issues. We function as legislative liaisons to maintain an ear and a voice for our members in Washington, Tallahassee, Immokalee, the Indian River area, and all points in-between.

We provide our members with ongoing economic knowledge that they can turn into action. And our marketing and economic staff provides the tools that enable members to get the best prices for their fruit.

Mutual hosts local and regional meetings to disseminate information and to provide our members with a forum to ask the tough questions, to exchange ideas and to be heard. We maintain a Web site and send out a newsletter, “The Triangle,” to ensure that our members are up to speed on industry and related news.

At Mutual, we want our members to remain in the groves, focusing on producing the best citrus products in the world—leaving the rest to us.

If you’re already a member, please continue to let us know how we’re doing. If you haven’t joined yet, why not? Together, we can accomplish many more goals than we can as individuals.

Now, more than ever, it’s vital for us to maintain a united front to work for the continued viability and success of the Florida citrus industry.

For more information, please give us a call at (863) 682-1111. We’d love to hear from you. CVM
