Barbara Carlton, who for the past 20 years has served as executive director of the Peace River Valley Citrus Growers Association, will be retiring June 1.

She is only the association's second executive director.

The ensure a smooth transition, a search committee has created a job description and will accept applications through March, according to a news release.

Carlton's replacement is expected to start in mid-May.

Board members also are finalizing the future planning process and have appointed a long-range planning committee, which met at the end of 2013.

The board is examining committee recommendations before adopting the final strategic plan.

Carlton came to the association after working 10 years for Farm Credit of Southwest Florida.

She replaced Cal Cobb, the association's first executive director, who left after six months to return home to New York state.

"I will dearly miss everyone and being a part of an organization focused keenly on the well-being of local citrus growers," Carlton said in the release. "Being a part of this membership has provided me with so many personal highlights to hold dear."
