Based on input from organic growers, the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station has launched a new website about weed control in organic vegetable production systems.
The input came from a February meeting of 20 growers with 10 Rutgers Cooperative Extension specialists, according to a news release.
The meeting also included updates on stink bug research, integrated pest management, food safety, pepper variety trials, disease forecasting and agritourism best management practices.
Station officials also asked growers to outline their research and production needs.
Growers identified pesticide applicator training for organic producers as a key need.
Rutgers county agents also write "Organic Farm Calls" for the Sustaining Farming on the Urban Fringe blog.
The posts help other farmers who may have the same issues.
