North Carolina State University is part of a national effort to gain a better understanding of late blight, the same disease responsible for the Irish Potato Famine.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has provided a $9 million five-year grant to fund the project.

NCSU will be responsible for developing an online national late blight reporting and alert system, similar to the cucurbit downy mildew alert system it currentlly oversees.
