The parent company of Morgan Hill, Calif.-based Sakata Seed America will celebrate 100 years in business this year.

The company was founded in June 1913 and is based in Yokohama, Japan, according to a news release.

Sakata Seed America Inc., which serves both North and Central America, was established in 1977.

In 2010, it was merged into Sakata America Holding Co. Inc., which also includes Alf Christianson Seed Co., Sakata Seed de Mexico and Sakata Seed de Guatemala.

The company breeds vegetables and ornamental flowers and sells wholesale under the Sakata and Chriseed brands.
