Dixondale Farms, a Carrizo Springs, Texas, producer of onion plants, will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013.
The operation comprises 2,200 acres in south Texas and plans to ship 850 million onion plants next year, according to a news release.
The family owned operation serves both home gardeners and large-scale commercial onion growers.
The business was founded by John Mabson McClendon and his son, Earl McClendon, in Dimmit County, Texas, in 1913.
The land they bought was in an area known locally as Dixondale, so they named the business Dixondale Farms.
In 1990, Dixondale Farms relocated to Carrizo Springs and launched a direct-to-consumer marketing program.
Following the onion crop, which is harvested in spring, Dixondale Farms plants a summer cantaloupe crop. The operation markets under the Carrizo Cantaloupes label.
