The University of Florida will host its first bee college in South Florida, Aug. 16-17, in Fort Lauderdale.
The two-day college also will feature courses in Spanish, according to a news release.
Among the courses are beekeeping for beginners, candle making, honey extraction, live bee removal training and a honey tasting.
There will be a track for the more experienced as well as for novices.
The goal of the bee college, now 5 years old, is to increase the number of registered beekeepers in Florida to nearly 3,000 from about 980.
The cost is $125 per person for one day or $185 for both days.
Family and other discounts are available. Meals and printed material are included in the price.
