Silver scurf has become an increasingly problematic potato disease since its discovery in the early 1900s.

The disease can cause widespread losses in fresh-market potatoes as well as those stored for long periods, according to a news release.

To help growers combat the fungal disease, the non-profit Plant Management Network has launched a free webinar on its Focus on Potato site.

The 38-minute session is hosted by Phil Hamm, a plant pathology professor at Oregon State University.

Hamm will discuss a season-long approach to disease management, starting at planting and ending with storage.

The webinar will be accessible through Oct. 31.

The non-profit Plant Management Network is a collaborative effort among the American Society of Agronomy, American Phytopathological Society and Crop Science Society of America.
