The University of California has just published a guide about how to attract winged pest control—namely songbirds, bats and owls—to vineyards.

"Songbird, Bat and Owl Boxes: Vineyard Management with an Eye Toward Wildlife" contains 28 color photographs, 41 figures including next box designs and three tables.

While the 52-page paperback publication provides tips for grape growers, it is equally applicable to growers with orchards or other crops.

Readers will learn about how to integrate nest boxes into vineyard management, biology and habitat requirements, construction and maintenance details, literature sources and online resources.

The cost is $15, not including tax and shipping. To order, call (800) 994-8849 or visit http://anrcatalog.ucdavis.edu.
