Cornell University has released two new apple varieties to New York state growers only.

The limited release is the result of the New York State Apple Growers LLC, which will oversee the varieties as managed releases—sometimes known as club varieties.

New York 1 has a taste similar to one of its parents, Honeycrisp, but it yields more reliably and is easier to manage.

New York 2, with a sweet and tart taste, is suited to both baking and fresh uses.
