The Environmental Protection Agency has registered Presidio Fungicide from Valent U.S.A. Corp. for use on leafy vegetables, cucurbits, fruiting vegetables and grapes.
The product, which contains the active ingredient fluopicolide, targets downy mildew in grapes and vegetables. It also controls late blight (Phytophthora infestans) and root, crown and fruit rots caused by Phytophthora capsici.
Presidio contains a novel mode of action and is in a new chemical class, giving growers another resistance-management tool. It provides preventative with some reach-back control.
Growers can tankmix the fungicide with other fungicides and insecticides. Presidio can be shanked in soil, applied through the sprinkler or used as a foliar treatment.
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation is conducting a concurrent review of the product. It is not registered in New York.
