Opponents of the fumigant methyl iodide are citing a report from Florida that they claim shows unhealthy levels of iodide have been found in groundwater near where the product was applied.
But Arysta LifeScience Corp., the product's manufacturer, says the groups are misusing the data and that the high levels of iodide are not due to the fumigant.
The fumigant, marketed as Midas by Arysta, is registered in most states except California and New York.
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation is considering a request to register the fumigant.
