MarketMaker, the interactive Website that matches agricultural buyers and sellers, was recently honored with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculutre Partnership Award.
The award recognized the Website's developer, the University of Illinois Extension's National Food MarketMaker Project, for its exemplary work and outstandinig contribution to USDA's mission, according to a news release.
The Extension group received the award in the multi-state category.
That's because MarketMaker has now been regionalized through a partnership of 17 land-grant institutions and more than 30 departments of agriculture.
The University of Florida is one of the more recent to launch a state MarketMaker site at http://fl.marketmaker.uiuc.edu/.
By visiting the national site, http://national.marketmaker.uiuc.edu/, viewers can quickly click on the map to be linked to a state MarketMaker program.
Not only do the sites link buyers and sellers, but Web users can narrow those fields.
If, for example, you grow a crop that's favored by a certain ethnic group, you can search accordingly.
