The Produce Safety Project, an initiative by the Pew Charitable Trusts at Georgetown University, is hosting a March 11 meeting in Columbus, Ohio, on the Food and Drug Administration's plans to establish a national produce safety standard.
It is one of only four such meetings nationwide, according to a news release.
The meeting is designed for fruit and vegetable growers, Extension educators, food retailers, consultants, scientists, produce trade association personnel and others to learn more about the proposed rule and voice their opinions.
Jeffrey LeJeune, assistant professor with Ohio State University's Food Animal Health Research Program, leads several multi-disciplinary vegetable safety research projects at Ohio State University. His food safety research is cited by the Produce Safety Project in its materials, and he will moderate parts of the meeting.
The meeting will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Blackwell Inn, 2110 Tuttle Park Place.
