The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has confirmed it found Salmonella serotype Saintpaul on a jalapeño pepper linked to a sick consumer. This is the same bacterial strain that has sickened more than 1,300 people in 43 states, the District of Columbia and Canada since mid-April.

In a press release, the Denver-based department says the consumer purchased the pepper at a Wal-Mart on June 24 and became ill on July 4.
