Growers of short-day onion varieties can reduce irrigations to up to 25 percent of the evapotranspiration rates without affecting yield or bulb size, according to a two-year study conducted by Texas A&M University researchers.

At the same time, the water-saving practice did not affect the accumulation of quercetin, a flavonoid that may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant health benefits.
