Scientists with the Agricultural Research Service say they believe that a combination of pathogens are responsible for colony collapse disorder in honey bees.

They presented their findings at the recent Ameircan Society for Microbiology meeting in San Diego.

Jay Evens, who led the research, says a group of pathogens that include a fungi and a family of viruses, create synergistic—and often deadly—effects in hives.
