The first Honeycrisp apple was planted in 1962.

But it's taken more than 20 years for volumes to increase to the point where people want to store it beyind three to four months in refrigerated storage.

The variety already has proven to be quite sensitive to low temperatures experienced during storage.

Randy Beaudry and Carolina Contreras, horticulturalists with Michigan State University, have been trying to unravel the mysteries surrounding storage of this cultivar.
